Letter To Myself
A journaling prompt led me to writing a letter to myself at this time last year. Below is what I’d want the 25 year old Joel to know in October of 2019.
You don’t know it yet, but this will be your toughest year yet. You will experience two student suicides, a global pandemic, aunt Deb passing away, a furlough, hardships at work that test your values and beliefs and make you question why you’re here.
You will cry. A lot.
Remember how strong you are, how loved you are, how beautiful life is, and just keep pushing. I promise, you’ll make it out better. This year will bring new friendships, push you in new directions, and challenge you to reflect on who you are and what you want out of life. Lean into these emotions.
Sisu will guide you through this year — grit, tenacity, resilience, strength. Remember these roots.
Empathy will allow you to connect with others over shared experiences. Live in this space. Love will be your only hope. Share it with others.
